Cinco de Mayo served as an inspirational springboard for this unique concert celebrating both Mexican music and heritage. The concert opens with José Pablo Moncayo’s Huapango, a lively and joyful tribute to the popular music of the Mexican state of Veracruz. Then, I am thrilled to welcome Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio as he makes his MSO debut performing Manuel Ponce’s romantic Piano Concerto No. 1. Silvestre Revueltas is one of the giants among Mexican composers, and I am very excited to introduce to you his suite from the movie La Noche de Los Mayas, featuring a multimedia presentation of Mayan art. And finally, a great mariachi ensemble Mariachi Los Camperos will play selections of Mexican songs with the Madison Symphony. A truly unique concert designed to lift your spirits and bring my 30th anniversary celebration to a rousing and joyful finale. – John DeMain, Music Director

REVOLUTIONARY ACTS | 2024 TEEN SUMMIT

The annual Teen Summit is End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin’s largest training, bringing youth, parents, educators, activists, and mentors from all over Wisconsin to learn about healthy relationships, teen dating violence, and sexual assault withi a larger anti-oppression framework.
We include educational and enthusiastic plenary speakers, youth-led workshops as well as topic-related performances.
We are excited to announce that the 2024 Teen Summit will be from 4/28/24 – 4/30/24 at the Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells!

RETRATANDO NUESTRA IDENTIDAD
TALLER DE TÉCNICAS MIXTAS/ COLLAGE Y ACRÍLICO
En este taller de 1 sesión exploraremos las técnicas mixtas de collage y acrílico, las cuales están muy presentes en el trabajo artístico de la Maestra Angelica Contreras. Para crear nuestra propia obra, los participantes trabajaran el concepto de identidad y como este se compone de capas. Combinaremos pintura, imágenes en papel, fragmentos y diversos materiales para darle significado a nuestra obra. Este taller está enfocado en participantes de 9 años en adelante.
El taller se llevara a cabo en el estudio de Inventiva Works ubicado en 6708 C Odana Rd., Madison, el 21 de Abril de la 1 pm a las 3pm. Todos los materiales están incluidos en el costo del taller.
PORTRAYING OUR IDENTITY
MIXED MEDIA/ COLLAGE & ACRYLIC WORKSHOP
In this 1-session workshop we will explore the mixed media techniques of collage and acrylic, which are very present in the artistic work of Maestra Angelica Contreras. To create our own work, participants will work on the concept of identity and how it is made up of layers. We will combine paint, images on paper, fragments and various materials to give meaning to our work. This workshop is for participants ages 9 and up. The workshop will be held at the Inventiva Works studio located at 6708 C Odana Rd., Madison, on April 21 from 1 pm to 3 pm. All materials are included in the cost of the workshop.
