Jazz in the Park – Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal

July 18 @ 5:00 pm 9:00 pm

Join us for the 28th season of Jazz in the Park with award-winning six-piece band Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal. The Nebraska natives want you to get up and dance to their album Running From Love, which that was recorded in Nashville’s historic The Sound Emporium. East Town Association’s Jazz in the Park is presented by Educators Credit Union.

Jazz in the Park is Milwaukee’s favorite free, outdoor, summer music series, featuring an eclectic lineup of jazz, big band, funk, R & B, reggae, blues and more.

As a way of giving back to the community, we are highlighting one local non-profit each week, sharing their mission and work in Milwaukee, and selling 50/50 raffle tickets benefitting their organization. Visit Latino Arts, Inc.’s booth on the north end of Cathedral Square Park this week for more information about who they are and what they do.

// What are Taco Tickets? Why do you use them?

Taco tickets are considered your taco-currency. Taco tickets are what you will give a vendor in trade for one of their delicious tacos. Vendors will be collecting all of the tickets they receive throughout the event, which in return are counted to see who sold the most tacos, as well as how many total tacos will have been consumed! Local vendors get money back from each ticket that they collect to help them cover their taco costs and make some money at the event.

// Can I buy more Taco Tickets at the event if I need any or run out of what is included in my ticket package?

Additional Taco Tickets can be purchased at the event for $2 per ticket.

Swarmm also is also the organizer of the Milwaukee Oktoberfest; a 3-day festival full of live German music, vendors, beer, and food. Milwaukee Oktoberfest celebrated its 9th year as the first event to be held on the Plaza outside of the Fiserv Forum. Conversations on Race and Empowerment (CoRE)

May 4 @ 10:00 am 11:30 am

In this conversation, we will be strengthening your Inclusiveness Network of Knowledge (INK) by looking at race, gender, and sexuality and how we view these and other identities. Why are we all so different? Why is it always us vs. them? We will be taking a look at how we are taught, teach, and perpetuate myths and legends about people different from ourselves. In addition, we will look at how these messages about ourselves become how we see ourselves.

CoRE Conversations is a series of facilitated community dialogues that begun as Conversations on Race and Empowerment (CoRE) during an exhibition series in September of 2017 with Dr. Charles Smith and Heather Hart. This exhibition created a space for honest conversations and it was evident there was more to talk about after the exhibition closed in January of 2018. As new series are added each month, dialogue now encompasses the impact of race, gender, sexuality, and power in our country and community. Reverend Lex Cade-White and Alexandra Nugent, both experienced facilitators, use data-driven resources to engage participants in approachable and inclusive discussions through creative expression and self-reflection. This series equips participants with the vocabulary and knowledge needed to further their understanding of privilege and the historical and current relations among diverse groups. The CoRE Conversation series gives tools to empower participants to go out and make a difference in their communities.
