Family Sundays: DĂ­a de los Muertos

Bring family and friends to the Museum to explore the colors and symbols of Day of the Dead at this annual visitor favorite. Learn about the holiday’s special traditions through a range of hands-on activities, from making paper flowers to adding remembrances of someone special who has passed to the community ofrenda.

For more than 25 years, the Museum has partnered with local artists and organizations to celebrate Día de los Muertos. Our special guests have included artists José Chavez, Celeste Contreras, and Debbie Sajnani and the national award-winning Latino Arts String Program.

All-Day Activities
10 AM–4 PM | Hands-on Art Making
Add to the community ofrenda, and make butterfly paintings, skeleton figures, jewelry and paper flowers.

10 AM–4 PM | Student Art Exhibition
Enjoy art by students from Carollton Elementary, Escuela Vieau, and Notre Dame Elementary.

11 AM–3 PM | Meet Wisconsin Artists
Meet artists from around the state and learn about how their heritage inspires their artwork.

Each year, we dedicate a non-juried group exhibition to showcase the artwork of our talented members. A wide range of media are presented salon-style throughout our gallery, creating an exuberant display of color, texture, form, and flow. The style of the artwork varies as much as the medium. For many, WPCA’s Annual Members Show has become a tradition and among their favorite to show work.

Meet our Selection Juror: CK Ledesma
Each year, a juror selects four outstanding artists from the Annual Members Show to exhibit individually in their own Featured Member Exhibition which will run for about 10 weeks: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Click here for more about Featured Member Exhibition and previous artists and jurors.
Ck Ledesma is a transdisciplinary Afro-Taino artist from San Juan, Puerto Rico, living in the diaspora in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Besides art practices, they are passionate about serving their community while building authentic relationships and the liberation of all BIPOC people.

Join Harbor District, Inc., Milwaukee Riverkeeper, and Riveredge Nature Center at Harbor Fest for another year of family fun celebrating all things fish, water, and boats! Harbor Fest will take place on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at the 600 block on E. Greenfield Avenue. Release a baby sturgeon with Riveredge Nature Center, cheer on the artist and their boat floats during the Milwaukee Riverkeeper Boat Parade, and enjoy the live music, local food, and activities at Harbor Fest!
