Lunch & Learn: Latin Rhythms – A World of Sound

Hosted by: Latino Arts, Inc.

June 21 @ 11:30 am 1:00 pm

With the start of summer, comes the start of summer concerts and music in the park!  Music is an essential part of most Latino cultures, rich in historical significance, and central to all Latino life.  But before you start enjoying our great local music scene, why not learn more about it? What are the cultural origins of samba, salsa, son jarocho, cumbia, and merengue? How are they similar? How are they unique?  Where did these musical genres come from and how are they kept alive today?

Featuring a dance demo by panelist & dancer, Imani Jalil!

Moderated by:
Peter Roller, Music Professor, Alverno College | Local Musician

Panelists Include:
Linda Araceli Serna – Educator | Cultural Worker | Fandanguera de corazón
Imani Jalil – Dancer (Panadanza Dance Company) | Choreographer | Teacher
Bony Plog-Benavides – Teacher (Bembé Drum & Dance) | Percussionist

Join us for lunch and a conversation that will be sure to get you moving!
