Lunch and Learn: Day of the Dead-Cultural Orgins

Dia de Los Muertos has become part of mainstream pop culture, but what are it’s cultural origins? What does it mean to those celebrating today?
This session will focus on Dia de los Muertos and will explore its precolonial origins, its evolution after conquest and how it has been adapted in the present day Hispanic culture and beyond.

Tickets are $10 and include a light lunch.

Moderator:
Jacobo Lovo, Managing Artistic Director of Latino Arts, Inc.

Panelists:
Laura Matthews: Professor of Latin American, Mexican, and Central American history at Marquette University

Jose Chavez: Chavez is a self-taught Mexican artist well known for his life-size skeleton figures that exemplify the humorous side of Day of the Dead.
