Fifth Annual Latino Veterans Legacy of Valor Foundation Benefit

Hosted by: Latino Veterans Legacy of Valor Foundation, Inc.

April 12, 2019 @ 5:30 pm 8:30 pm

We invite you to join us for our Fifth Annual Benefit where we present the 2019 1st Lt. Daren M. Hidalgo Latino Veteran of the Year award on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center.

This year, we are very fortunate to welcome Dave Gutierrez, author of Patriots of the Barrio, as our keynote speaker. Like many of us, Mr. Gutierrez grew up hearing incomplete stories of relatives who served in the military. His curiosity led to his book, which has caught the eye of Hollywood with actor/producer Wilmer Valderrama acquiring its film and TV rights. Patriots of the Barrio delves into the history of his cousin’s segregated U.S. Army combat unit comprised entirely of Mexican Americans from South Texas that was part of the first division to set foot in Europe in World War II. We’re excited to have Mr. Gutierrez share his story.

Our annual benefit helps us raise money to further our mission, including

  • Lead the effort to establish a permanent memorial/tribute to our
  • Wisconsin Latino/a veterans.
  • Offer scholarships to Latino service members, veterans and their dependents.
  • Publicly recognize the contributions of local Latino/a veterans positively impacting our community.
  • Document, share and preserve local Latino/a military service member histories.

The Latino Veterans’ Legacy of Valor Foundation, Inc. is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization working to advance our mission to honor the sacrifices of Wisconsin Latino veterans in a manner that connects our past and present with our community’s future.
